Calling All Snow Goose Hunters!

For centuries the Snow Goose has migrated south in winter and followed the snow line north to breeding grounds in Canadian Tundra. The breeding population of the lesser snow goose exceeds 5 million birds, an increase of more than 300% since the mid-1970’s. The Light Goose Conservation Order was mandated in 1999. Restrictions were relaxed to allow the use of electronic callers, unplugged shotguns, extended shooting hours and no bag limits.

Your guide, Dan Shaw, is in the field during the migration from January through April with hunt locations established in Arkansas, Missouri and South Dakota. The typical migration is from Arkansas  into late February, Mound City, Missouri through mid-March the into early April for South Dakota.

Snow Goose Migration

1. Winter into February

In winter the snow goose flock can be found throughout the southern United States. We begin our hunt in Arkansas.

2. Mid February into March

As winter turns to spring the snow goose flock moves north towards their breeding grounds. They follow the snow line and we make Mound City, Missouri our home base for the daily hunts.

3. Mid March into Early April

We work with farmers and landowners to find the best hunting locations. The snow goose remembers where it was shot at and finds new grazing grounds. We move up into South Dakota to finish up our hunt.

Snow Goose Dilema

The rapidly growing size of the snow goose population is having a devastating effect on their breeding grounds. The Audubon Society, National Wildlife Federation, Ducks Unlimited and American Bird Conservancy have all voiced support for measures to reduce the snow goose numbers before their habitat is lost.

Other species are being effected by the destruction of habitat by this massive population. Join the conservation effort by joining a hunt.
